Peru
MEDLIFE is a nonprofit working alongside low-income communities in Latin America and Africa to expand access to medicine, education, and opportunities for growth.

Peru at a Glance

Peru is the third largest country in South America, after Brazil and Argentina. It contains a variety of landscapes, from mountains and beaches to deserts and rain forests. The world’s largest rain forest, the Amazon, covers nearly half of Peru. Called the selva in Spanish, this huge jungle, which also covers half of Brazil, is home to plants and animals that do not live anywhere else on Earth.
Most people live along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, where the capital, Lima, is located, while many rural and highland communities face significant barriers in accessing healthcare, infrastructure, and economic opportunities. Spanish and Quechua are widely spoken, reflecting the country’s cultural and linguistic diversity.

Why we Work in Peru
In many peri-urban and rural communities, geographic barriers, informal employment, and limited infrastructure make consistent access to healthcare and essential services difficult. These challenges are not only medical — they are structural. Safe transportation routes, land ownership, water access, and stable housing all directly influence health outcomes. MEDLIFE works alongside communities in Peru to address these interconnected barriers, focusing on long-term solutions that improve both immediate well-being and future opportunities.
MEDLIFE in Peru
MEDLIFE works in Peru through long-term partnerships with community leaders, local health professionals, and public institutions to expand access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity. By strengthening local capacity and investing in projects identified by communities themselves, MEDLIFE supports sustainable solutions that continue creating impact long after a mobile clinic or service learning trip ends.
