Why Volunteer Abroad
in Antigua, Guatemala?
In Guatemala, the beauty of its landscapes and cultural richness often mask the underlying issue of poverty affecting many residents. Despite being a popular tourist destination, a significant number of Guatemalans live in poverty, with rural and indigenous populations facing the most severe conditions. Factors contributing to this situation include limited access to education and healthcare, scarce job opportunities, and a high level of income inequality. While tourism provides economic benefits, they are not uniformly felt, leaving many locals, particularly in non-tourist areas, without substantial improvement in their living standards.
